Solar Panel Installation on a Character Home

An integrated in-roof array, set discreetly into an older character property's roof in Kent.

Here our team fitted an integrated in-roof array on an older character property with an ageing plain-tiled roof. The all-black solar panels are set flush into the roof for a discreet finish that respects the character of the home rather than dominating it.

In-roof mounting is a lovely solution on period roofs, where a bulky on-roof array can look out of place. The completed panels sit neatly within the existing roofline and read almost like part of the roof itself.

Installer hand-fitting the in-roof tray system on a character home roof in Kent

Integrated to respect the roofline

The in-roof tray system is hand-fitted into the roof — the framework the solar panels drop into, which channels water safely away. Setting out an integrated array on an older roof takes care and experience.

Tiles have to be removed and reinstated cleanly around the array, and the trays dressed in properly so the finished roof stays completely weather-tight. It's more involved than a standard on-roof fit, and the tidy end result reflects that.

Discreet all-black in-roof solar panels finished on a character home's slate roof

A period home, brought up to date

The homeowner gets a solar panel system that cuts their electricity bills and earns from the Smart Export Guarantee, without compromising the look of a home they clearly care about.

Solar panels can also add to a property's appeal and value, and modern all-black panels keep maintenance to a minimum — rain does most of the cleaning, and a quick check every year or two is usually all that's needed.

Frequently asked questions

Years of hands-on experience and know-how — here to help.

An in-roof system sets the panels into the roof itself, replacing the tiles beneath them with a sealed, watertight tray, so they finish flush with the surrounding tiles for a discreet, built-in look.

They're often the best choice. Set flush into the roof, they keep the panels low-profile and sympathetic to an older property, where a raised on-roof array can look out of place.

No. We remove and reinstate tiles carefully around the array and dress the trays in so the roof stays fully weather-tight. We treat your roof with real care.

Most installations fall under permitted development, but conservation areas and listed buildings can need extra approval. We check this for you and handle any paperwork.

Most homes are completed in one to three days on site, depending on the size of the system and roof access. We give you a clear timeline at survey stage so you know exactly what to expect.

Very little. Rain keeps the glass largely clean and there are no moving parts to wear out. We can arrange an occasional clean or system check if you'd like to keep output at its best.

Yes. We fit GivEnergy, Fox and Tesla battery storage and smart EV chargers, either at the same time or later, so you can store daytime solar power for the evening and charge your car on your own clean energy.

We do. We're based in Faversham and cover the whole county, from Canterbury, Ashford and Maidstone to Folkestone, the Medway towns and the West Kent commuter belt.
