These are genuine energy readings shared by Solarbright customers, straight from their own apps. They show what a well-designed solar panel and battery system actually does to your electricity bills.
This GivEnergy readout covers a two-week period (7–20 June 2024). Of the 343.7 kWh the home used, 163.8 kWh came straight from the solar panels and another 126.5 kWh from the battery — roughly 84% of everything the household used, generated on their own roof and used both day and night.
Only 53.4 kWh was drawn from the grid. At the May 2024 electricity rate (about 24.5p per kWh) that's roughly £70 of electricity they simply didn't have to buy in a single fortnight — and at today's rate of around 26p per kWh, the same fortnight would be worth nearer £75. Because of the battery, they kept running on their own solar power right through the evenings too.
Here's another customer's Octopus Energy app for the week of 20–26 May 2024. Their total cost of electricity for the entire week was just £2.55 — because their solar panels covered most of what the home used, and the surplus was exported for credit on the Outgoing Octopus tariff.
For comparison, a similar home without solar panels might pay somewhere around £13–£16 a week for its electricity at today's prices — and this household is also earning money back for the power it sends to the grid.
These are real readings from individual customers, recorded in 2024. Electricity has since risen to around 26p per kWh (from about 24.5p in May 2024), so a system generating the same today would typically save even more.
